“What do you want for Christmas?” That is a question that we hear frequently this time of the year. A child may answer with the name of the latest game or toy. Each of us might answer the question with a list of things that we’ve had our eye on as well. Did you ever think about how God might answer that question. In the Old Testament, Micah spoke of the gifts that God wants from us – gifts of the heart: showing kindness in word and action, and living lives of humility and service. These require no money, no ribbons, and no wrapping! God wants our worship and prayers, our time and abilities, and our compassion for others – and not just at Christmas, but all year long!

A gift that the Rocky Mountain District LWML gives each year is a $500 scholarship for a student in the Rocky Mountain District who is enrolled at a Concordia University or LCMS Seminary and studying for fulltime church work. The application deadline is April 1, 2013. Applications are available online at

Zion’s LWML will host their annual Christmas Potluck on Monday, December 10, at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. We will be testing your knowledge of some of your favorite Christmas carols! Please bring a nonperishable food item that will be given to a Brighton area food bank. (A way to show compassion for others – see story above!) Hope to see you there.

God’s richest blessings to all and have a very Merry Christmas!
